TAMPA, Fla. -- The University of South Florida athletic department and sports medicine program are proud to announce the hiring of Jennifer Hill as the Director of Sports Nutrition.
Hill will provide information and counseling directly to USF student-athletes and teams. She will work closely with Assistant AD/Director of Sports MedicineSteve Walz and Assistant AD for Strength & Conditioning Ronnie McKeefery.
On a one-to-one basis Hill will advise players on issues relating to weight loss, weight/muscle gain, injury recovery and supplementation. Hill will also assist student-athletes who may be dealing diseases such as anemia and diabetes.
Additionally, Hill will be available to athletes for education and counseling on eating disorders.
On the team level, Hill will assist with pre and post-competition meal composition and timing, recovery, hydration, proper eating on the road, grocery shopping tours and cooking classes.
“I’m excited to join the staff at USF,” said Hill. “The athletic department has made nutrition education and assistance a major point of emphasis.
“This field is a major part of sports today. Athletes want to know the best ways to fuel their bodies. We will work with them on a regular basis to maximize this area of their life and avoid the dangers and pitfalls.”
Hill did her undergrad work at Virginia Tech, where she competed on the volleyball team, and earned a bachelor of science in food, nutrition, exercise and dietetics.
From Blacksburg, Hill went on to earn her master of sciences in nutritional sciences at the University of Florida in 2007
“We are very excited to have Jenny Hill on staff,” said head strength coach Ronnie McKeefery. “She brings a strong athletic and academic background with her, and has made an immediate impact with our athletes”
While completing her master’s work, Hill was a clinical dietitian at the North Florida Regional Medical Center where she set her roots as a dietetic intern from February to May of this year.
She also worked for the Marion County Cooperative Extension Service as a dietetic intern earlier in 2007.
Hill also worked at UF as a project coordinator and nutritional intern while she was completing her postgraduate degree work.
