Ball was named Assistant Offensive Line Coach in March of 2025, joining head coach Alex Golesh’s third staff at South Florida.
Ball arrived at USF following two seasons on staff at Tennessee, where he served as a graduate assistant working with the offensive line from 2023–24. A five-year member of the Volunteers program as a walk-on offensive lineman, Ball earned a reputation for his intelligence, leadership, and future coaching potential. Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee routinely praised Ball as “a coach in the making,” noting his ability to correct mistakes in meetings, anticipate protections, and serve as an extension of the coaching staff even as a player.
After wrapping up his playing career in 2022, Ball immediately joined the Vols’ coaching staff, making a seamless transition from player to GA. His sharp eye for detail and understanding of technique, assignment, and scheme allowed him to play an active role in practice and film sessions, particularly with the development of young linemen. He remained on staff through the 2024 season, continuing to assist with offensive line development, practice planning, and opponent scouting.
Ball appeared in 26 career games from 2021–22, seeing time at center and on special teams. He totaled 181 career snaps without allowing a sack or quarterback hit. In 2022, he played in all 13 games and logged 107 snaps at center, allowing just one pressure all season per Pro Football Focus. He posted a career-high 36 offensive snaps against UT Martin and recorded 33 clean snaps in the season opener against Ball State. He also played 30 snaps in a 2021 win over Tennessee Tech.
Ball joined Tennessee as a walk-on in 2019 and persevered through a coaching transition, ultimately earning an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in March of 2023—becoming the eighth player in program history to receive the award. He was also a five-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection.
A native of Douglasville, Ga., Ball was a two-sport standout at Douglas County High School. He received football offers from Columbia, Jacksonville, and Stetson. On the baseball field, he hit .316 with 71 hits, 49 RBIs, and 31 runs scored, while also maintaining a 3.00 ERA across 31 pitching appearances.
Ball earned his undergraduate degree in therapeutic recreation from Tennessee and is pursuing graduate studies while launching his coaching career.
He is the son of Kristi and Trent Ball and was born on March 17, 2001.
