Rick Stumpf, Esq. is in his third year as Assistant Director of Athletics for Compliance at the University of South Florida.  He was promoted to his current position after serving as Compliance Coordinator at USF since June 2006.  In addition to his day to day NCAA and Big East compliance responsibilities, Stumpf serves on the Institutional Compliance & Ethics Counsel.

In his capacity, Stumpf’s primary duties include directing a comprehensive rules education program, investigating and enforcing NCAA rules violations, monitoring recruitment activities, providing rules interpretations, approving promotional activities, administering complimentary admissions, serving as the primary contact for athlete-agents, handling camps and clinics, auditing playing and practice logs, and administering the NLI program.

Prior to joining USF, Stumpf served as Compliance Intern/Legal Consultant at his alma mater, Villanova University, from September 2004-May 2006.  While at Villanova, Stumpf’s responsibilities included calculating academic evaluations for prospects, administering the SAF/SAOF, auditing athletic department phone logs and playing and practice season logs, monitoring official visits, and supervising complimentary ticket distribution.

Prior to his career in intercollegiate athletics, Stumpf spent three years in the legal profession, specializing in corporate business transactions.  He was admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

A native of Middletown, New Jersey, Stumpf received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Villanova University in 1999 and his Juris doctorate from Seton Hall University Law School in 2002.  While in law school, Stumpf served as a Sports Law Fellow for the Seton Hall Center for Sports Law.

Stumpf and his wife, Patricia, reside in Tampa with their daughter Grace.
