Scott Wood is entering his 1st year as the Assistant Director of Athletic Medicine/Head Football Athletic Trainer at USF. Scott came to USF from UTEP where he spent two years as the Associate Director of Sports Medicine/Head Football Athletic Trainer
During Scott’s first year at UTEP, the UTEP football program achieved bowl eligibility and participated in the 2021 New Mexico Bowl against Fresno State.
Prior to UTEP Scott spent 5 years at the University of Maryland. Scott was elevated to the position of Associate Athletic Trainer for football in January of 2020, after previously serving as an Assistant Athletic Trainer since April of 2018. He previously served the University of Maryland football team as a Resident Athletic Trainer since June of 2016. In addition to his role as Associate Athletic Trainer with the football program, he operated as the Athletic Training Department’s Insurance Coordinator. While he was a Resident Athletic Trainer, the Terrapins appeared in the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, Mich.
Scott received his Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston State University in May of 2016. During his two years in Huntsville, he worked with the SHSU football team, which appeared in back-to-back NCAA FCS Playoff Semifinals in 2014 and 2015.
Scott graduated from TCU in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. While with the TCU football program, he enjoyed trips to the 2011 Rose Bowl, as well as the 2012 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl.
Scott has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) since 2011, and is currently CPR/AED certified.
Scott is also certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) since June of 2015. Additionally, he holds Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) credentials through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
A native of Cedar Park, Texas, Scott is married to the former Katie Rhatigan, and together they have two sons, Owen and Bryce.
