The son of Skip Holtz and grandson of Lou Holtz and a native of Tampa, Fla., Holtz previously served as the lead offensive analyst for LSU (2025) and prior to that was as an offensive analyst at the University of Houston (2023-24).

Holtz has served as the offensive quality control coach at Charlotte in 2022 and spent two seasons coaching the inside receivers at Louisiana Tech (2020-21).

In his first season at Louisiana Tech, Holtz coached Smoke Harris and Cee Jay Powell, who both earned honorable mention All-Conference USA honors in 2020. Harris led the team in receptions with 39 for 304 total yards and four touchdowns, while Powell registered 37 receptions for 271 yards. As a unit, the Bulldogs tallied 2,166 total receiving yards and averaged 216.6 receiving yards per game.

Prior to his time at Louisiana Tech, Holtz spent three seasons at Ohio State (2017-19) where he worked primarily with the Buckeyes tight ends and running backs.
In 2019, Holtz was promoted to Ohio State’s offensive graduate assistant after serving as the assistant tight ends coach in 2018 and the assistant running backs coach in 2017.

In his three years on Ohio State’s offensive staff, the Buckeyes set numerous records while posting a combined record of 38-4.

In 2019, the Buckeyes led the NCAA in first downs (397) and third-down conversions (55.2), ranked No. 3 in scoring offense (46.9) and No. 4 in total offense (529.9).
The 2018 squad set school and Big Ten records for total yards per game (535.6), passing yards (5,100) and passing touchdowns (51). The 2017 team averaged 506.0 yards per game and scored 50 or more points five times.

Holtz was part of back-to-back-to-back Big Ten championships along with Cotton Bowl and Rose Bowl victories.

Holtz was a five-year quarterback at the University of Texas (2012-16). He played in all 23 games during his junior and senior seasons of 2015 and 2016 as the team’s holder on field goals and extra points.

As a preferred walk-on, Holtz went on to earn a scholarship and was a five-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Holtz attended H.B. Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., and helped the Panthers win a state title as a senior.

Holtz earned a master’s degree from Ohio State’s sport management program in December of 2018. He received his bachelor’s degree from Texas in physical culture and sport.
