Courtney Vernon is back in green and gold with a goal of helping Bulls excel on the court like she once did.
The USF women's team's former captain has joined head coach Agustin
Moreno's staff as an assistant and is excited to help the Bulls take the
program to the next level in the upcoming season.
"I feel very privileged for the opportunity to come back to coach at
my alma mater," Vernon said. "The athletic department has helped me in
numerous ways over the past seven years. I am very grateful to Agustin
and the entire administration for allowing me this opportunity."
Vernon served as USF's captain from 2006-07 and had a stellar college
career in No. 1 and 2 singles competition. The Solon, Ohio native
competed in the NCAA Championships in 2006 and compiled a 26-0 record
that season.
"Coaching at the school you graduated from is not an opportunity that
happens very often and I am excited to be back and be a part of the
South Florida family again," she said.
Vernon went on to play pro tennis on the WTA Tour and served as an
assistant coach for the men's and women's tennis programs at Colgate
University since 2009. Her new task is to lend a helping hand to a USF
team that reached the Big East Championship final last season.
"I hear that the women have a lot of talent and we have some hard
working players," Vernon said. "I know this is going to be a great year,
and I am excited to help the women reach their goals and beyond."
