University of South Florida Men’s Basketball Coach Stan Heath finalized his coaching staff, naming former USF standout Chris Howard the Director of Basketball Operations. Howard’s familiarity with USF will be a valuable asset in his new role, where he will oversee day-to-day operations of the basketball program.

“We’re very excited to have Chris back on campus as a Bull for our operations position,” said Heath. “He was a very key member of our basketball program so it should be an easy transition with his familiarity with our style, myself and the players on the team. This will be a great opportunity for him to learn and grow at his alma mater.”

Howard will join the Bulls after playing overseas professionally following his graduation from USF in 2010. He was a key member of the Bulls’ squad from 2006-10 and still ranks fourth all-time in career assists with 487 (4.5 average). He started in 105 of his 109 career games played and served a large role for the Bulls as both a team captain and leader.

Howard graduated from USF with two degrees while leading the Bulls to a 2009-10 NIT appearance following a 20-win season. He was named the team’s defensive MVP all four seasons despite two separate ACL surgeries during his career.  Commonly described the epitome of a USF Bull, Howard’s commitment, work ethic and sportsmanship will prove valuable in his new role overseeing the day-to-day operations of the program.
