MORGANTOWN, W.Va (October 9, 2005) ? The USF women's soccer team fall to (5-5-3, 0-4-3 BIG EAST) on the season with its loss against No. 21 West Virginia (8-3-3, 5-1-1 BIG EAST) on a cold and dreary day at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, in Morgantown, W.Va.
The Mountaineers defense dominated USF on the afternoon, only allowing the Bulls to get off one shot in each stanza. In all, West Virginia outshot USF, 25-2.
West Virginia got on the board early in the second half when WVU's Ashley Banks drove a cross from Rachael Minnich via Kambria Riggins past a diving Casey Garrett, putting the ball in the back of the net.
West Virginia put the match away in the 83rd minute when the Bulls failed to clean the ball out of their own box off a WVU corner kick. WVU's Amanda Cicchini found herself in the right place at the right time, redirecting the ball into the back of the net, to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead.
In the contest, the Bulls were unable to get off a corner kick, while the Mountaineers took eight.
The Bulls will look for their first BIG EAST Conference victory on Friday, October 14, 2005, when they travel to Louisville, K.Y. to face the Louisville Cardinals. Game time is 7 p.m.
