Jeff Baisley Drafted By Oakland

TAMPA, Fla. (June 9, 2005) – University of South Florida third baseman Jeff Baisley was taken in the 12th round (371st pick overall) by the Oakland A's on Tuesday, June 7 during the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft held June 7-8.
Baisley, a native of Land O'Lakes, Fla., completed his fourth year with USF, hitting .356 with eight home runs and 71 RBI. His 71 RBI were the seventh-most at USF in a single season. Baisley led Conference USA with 26 doubles – a USF single-season record, while finishing the 2005 season ranked third in hits (89). A second team All-C-USA selection this past season, Baisley became the third player to record 300 hits during a career after registering his 300th in his final collegiate game (May 27 at Southern Miss – C-USA Tournament). Baisley also became only the fourth player in USF history to notch 200-or-more RBI during a career, tallying 209 in four seasons with the Bulls. A .342 career hitter, Baisley finished ranked fifth all-time at USF in doubles with 58.
The 2005 MLB Draft lasted 50 rounds over two days. Nearly 1,500 players (both college and high school) were selected by the 30 Major League clubs.
