TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2005) ? The USF volleyball team lost a tough match to Florida State, 3-1 (23-30, 30-22, 30-25, 30-28) at Tully Gym in Tallahassee, Fla.
Two Bulls registered double-doubles in the match,
Kristina Fabris and
Michelle Stalbaum. Fabris, who recorded her fourth career double-double, had a team-high 21 kills and tallied 11 digs. Stalbaum notched her 15 double-double on a 11-kill, 12-dig effort.
With four ties and two lead changes, USF (0-7) held on and took the early lead in the match, winning game one. The Bulls out-hit the Seminoles .206 to .128. and took advantage of misplays, tallying nine points on unforced errors by FSU.
In game two the Bulls struggled offensively, hitting .025 compared to the Seminoles' .235. Florida State only relinquished the lead once in the game although the Bulls tied it up six times. Defensively the Seminoles had the slight advantage in the game, netting four more digs (18-14) than USF and taking the game 30-22.
Florida State (2-5) took the early lead in game three and only allowed the Bulls to tie it up once, winning its second-straight game, 30-25. Although the Seminoles took the win, they just out-played USF, hitting .119 to .111. The digs were the difference in the game, with FSU getting seven more than the Bulls (20-13).
Game four was close to the end, featuring three lead changes and four ties. With the Seminoles up 29-25 and looking for the match point, the Bulls went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead within one, however FSU closed out the match as Gabrielle Rivera tallied her only kill in the match for the win.
USF will look to get its first win when it takes on UCF on Friday at 7 p.m. at The Corral
