No.18/24 Ranked Huskies Down Bulls in OT, 1-0

TAMPA, Fla. (September 25, 2005) ? The No. 18/24 Connecticut Huskies defeated the USF women's soccer team, 1-0, in OT in USF's first ever home BIG EAST Conference match, Sunday afternoon at the USF Soccer Stadium.

UConn's consistent attack was rewarded in the first via a penalty granted with 17:01 remaining in the first half. However Bulls goalkeeper Casey Garrett turned aside the attempt by the Huskies Meghan Schnur, guessing correctly to her right.
The balance of the opening stanza was controlled by the defenses of both BIG EAST teams. Junior Jenna Ball took one of UConn's better scoring opportunities away with a sliding kick save from Brittany Taylor's diagonal run through USF's penalty area in the 29th minute.

The Huskies controlled most of the possession in the second stanza, putting eight shots on frame to the Bulls one. But an excellent performance by Garrett as well as a strong defensive effort saw UConn come away without a goal.

In the 9th minute of overtime, the Huskies Kristi Lefevbre headed a ball behind the USF line, which was settled by Brittany Tegler, whose original shot was deflected by Garrett coming off her line, leaving Brittany Taylor with an empty net to easily fill from 15 yards.

The Bulls will look to get their first home BIG EAST win over DePaul this Friday, September 30. The match starts at 7:30pm.
