
Red Division Race Heats Up; USF Hosts Louisville On Wednesday

TAMPA, Fla. (October 17, 2006) - Unbeaten in the last four games, the University of South Florida men's soccer team (8-4-3, 4-2-3 BIG EAST) hosts the Louisville Cardinals (5-9-1, 4-5-0 BIG EAST) in the team's final regular season home game of 2006on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The game will be broadcast (tape delay) by Catch 47 in the Tampa Bay area and will feature two teams jockeying for position in the Red Division Standings.
Prior to the start of the game, USF will honor its six seniors - Dane Brenner, Sammy Castellanos, Blake Sharpe, Kareem Smith, Andre Townsend and Hunter West - who will playing in their final regular season match at the USF Soccer Stadium.
The Bulls, who clinched a spot in this year's BIG EAST Championship (beginning Oct. 25), are just one point behind division-leading Cincinnati with two games left in the regular season. Louisville is on the verge of qualifying for the team's first BIG EAST championship appearance, sitting just three points behind USF.
Coming off back-to-back home victories, USF is led offensively by sophomore Jordan Seabrook (6g, 2a 14 pts.). Last season Seabrook registered two goals and an assist versus Louisville. Kevon Neaves, the reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, scored two goals and notched one assist to help the Bulls to a 2-0-0 record last week. On the year, Neaves has tallied two goals and four assists for eight points. Kris Raad, who leads the team in assists (6), recorded helpers in back-to-back games last week. The six assists in a season are the most for the junior midfielder.
Brenner notched two victories last week to improve his season total to eight. The High Point, N.C., native has amassed 35 wins during his four-year stint in net. Brenner currently ranks 22nd (0.75) in GAA and 25th in save percentage (82.4%) in the nation.
Louisville enters Wednesday's game having won two of its last three conference games, including a 5-0 win over Villanova (Oct. 14). David Guzman leads all Cardinal players with seven goals and five assists for 19 points. Goalkeeper David Simolike enters the mid-week contest with a 4-8-1 record and a 1.38 GAA in 14 appearances this season.
Wednesday's game will mark the 17th meeting all-time between USF and Louisville. The Bulls have won the last two meetings and hold a 7-1-1 record at home versus the Cardinals.
