
USF Hosts Seton Hall In First-Round BIG EAST Championship Action

TAMPA, Fla. (October 24, 2006) - Making its second-straight BIG EAST Championship appearance, the University of South Florida men's soccer team (8-5-4, 4-3-4 BIG EAST) hosts Seton Hall (9-7-1, 7-4-0 BIG EAST) in a first round match on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
The fourth seed in the Red Division, USF will face Seton Hall for the first time this season. The Pirates, who earned the fifth seed in the Blue Division will be making their first trip to Tampa since falling 3-2 in overtime to the Bulls last season (Sept. 16, 2005).
USF enters the conference tournament posting a 1-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Championship. Wednesday's match will mark the second BIG EAST Championship game held at the USF Soccer Stadium. The Bulls hosted the West Virginia Mountaineers in a BIG EAST quarterfinals match last season (Nov. 5, 2005), winning 4-1.
USF is led offensively by sophomore Jordan Seabrook, who has tallied six goals and two assists for 14 points. Junior Rodrigo Hidalgo enters Wednesday's contest with four goals and two assists. The Hermann Trophy candidate notched a goal and two assists versus the Pirates last season, including the game-tying penalty kick with time winding down in the game. Midfielder Kris Raad leads USF in assists with six. The junior ranks fourth in the conference in assists and leads USF with three game-winning assists.
Goalkeeper Dane Brenner enters the first-round contest with an 8-5-4 record and a 0.77 GAA. Brenner ranks among the top in the nation in both goals against average (26th) and saves percentage (29th).
Seton Hall comes into Wednesday's game having won two of its last three BIG EAST outings. The Pirates finished the 2006 regular season posting a 4-4-1 record on the road (4-2-0 in conference play). Seton Hall is led by John Raus, who has recorded nine goals and six assists this season. Goalkeeper Ian Joyce comes into the tournament game with a 5-4-1 record and a 1.56 GAA.
