PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 6, 2006) -- Trae Williams, a junior cornerback from Plant City, Fla., has been named Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in USF's 22-12 win over Pittsburgh.
Williams, who is fifth in the nation and first in the Big East in interceptions, picked up his sixth pick of the season to seal the win. He also broke up a pass that was subsequently intercepted by Mike Jenkins, and he had seven tackles in the game.
Meanwhile, quarterback Matt Grothe was named to the Big East Honor Roll for the week with 180 yards passing and 51 rushing, plus one touchdown through the air and one on the ground in the Pitt win.
