South Orange, NJ (February 8, 2006) ? The University of South Florida women's basketball team got back on the winning track tonight with a 62-50 win over Seton Hall at Walsh Gymnasium.
The Bulls (16-8, 6-5 BIG EAST) jumped out of the gate quickly behind Shantia Grace (Sarasota, FL) who scored the teams first eight points and 12 of their first 14 points of the game.
USF would lead 8-2, its biggest lead of the half, only to have the Pirates (6-16, 3-8 BIG EAST) fight back to tie the game at 11 with 14:31 left in the half.
Seton Hall would use a 14-7 run to take its largest lead of the contest, 25-18, with 5:34 left before the intermission. The Bulls, however would come back to take a 28-27 lead at the half.
The second half seemed like it was going to go much like the first until the Bulls finally stepped their defense up a notch. USF forced the Pirates into 11 of its 19 turnovers on the night in the second half.
Seton Hall would lead 43-41 with 11:48 left in the contest when the Bulls went on a 14-2 run to blow the game wide open, 45-55.
USF would hold the Pirates to just one field goal during the last 10 minutes of the game en route to the win.
All-America candidate ? and the nation's leading scorer ? Jessica Dickson (Ocala, FL) netted a game-high 20 points while Grace added 17 points in the win.
Dickson set a new USF single season scoring record. She surpassed former Bull Wanda Guyton's 549 points set during the 1988-89 season. Dickson currently has 552 points this season.
USF will return to the Sun Dome on Saturday, Feb. 11 to face Pittsburgh at 7 p.m.
