Arkansas Prep Standout Solomon Bozeman Commits To USF

TAMPA, Fla. ? The University of South Florida men's basketball team has received a commitment from prep standout Solomon Bozeman for the 2006-07 campaign, head coach Robert McCullum announced Wednesday afternoon.

Bozeman, a 6-1, 175-pound guard, will arrive on campus this summer and have four seasons of eligibility with the Bulls.

“We are elated Solomon has decided to further pursue his athletic and academic career at USF,” McCullum said.  “He brings to the program everything we are looking for in a point guard.”

Bozeman garnered Class 4A All-State accolades as a senior at Magnolia High School in Arkansas, averaging 28.5 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 steals per game.  He helped lead the squad to the championship game of the state tournament, averaging 34.0 points per game in the postseason and claimed all-tournament honors for his efforts.  Magnolia concluded the year 23-6.

He was also named to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's All-Arkansas Team.

“Solomon has been well coached, having been involved with basketball growing up,” McCullum said.  “He is extremely competitive, smart, skilled and shoots the ball with great range.”

Bozeman's father, Eric, is the head coach at Southern Arkansas and served as an assistant under Rod Barnes at Ole Miss for seven seasons.

As a junior, Bozeman posted season averages of 25.1 points, 6.6 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game at Oxford High School in Mississippi.  He claimed district most valuable player accolades and was named the Oxford Eagle Player of the Year for 2004-05.

“Solomon is a fine student who has already targeted a degree in education,” McCullum added.  “He is an outstanding young man who will be a valuable asset to both the program and the University.”

USF's 2006-07 recruiting class now includes Bozeman and fellow prep standout Dante Curry (Kissimmee, FL) and transfers Kentrell Gransberry (LSU) and Jesus Verdejo (Arizona).  Gransberry and Verdejo will be eligible in early December.
