
USF Hosts Georgetown In Final Home BIG EAST Series Of The Season

TAMPA, Fla. (April 27, 2006) ? The University of South Florida baseball team (19-23, 8-10 BIG EAST) will host the Georgetown Hoyas (19-24, 5-10 BIG EAST) in the final home BIG EAST series of the 2006 season beginning Friday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m.
The Bulls are looking to snap a two-game losing skid, including a 12-9, 11-inning loss to Stetson on Tuesday, April 25.
The Bulls enter this weekend's series batting .281 with 20 home runs and 204 RBI. USF has registered nine home runs in its last three games, including grand slams by Brad Karns and Dexter Butler. Senior Kris Howell leads USF in hitting with a .348 batting average. The Tierra Verde, Fla., native has scored 26 runs and driven in 19 this season. Freshman Addison Maruszak, who is hitting .324 on the year, recorded his first-career home run on Tuesday. The Pinellas Park, Fla., native leads the Bulls with 13 doubles this season.
USF's pitching staff enters Friday's contest with a 4.79 ERA with 346 strikeouts in 386 and two-thirds innings of action. Junior Casey Hudspeth is slated to get the start on Friday. The Sarasota, Fla., native holds a 4-5 record with a 4.73 ERA and a league-leading 74 strikeouts this season. Saturday's starter will be Daniel Thomas. The Tampa native has recorded a career-high 52 Ks this season and has earned a 2-4 record with a 4.45 ERA. Davis Bilardello will get the nod on Sunday, entering the contest with a 1-3 record and a 4.45 ERA. The Vero Beach, Fla., native will be making his 11th start of 2006.
Georgetown enters this weekend's series having won its last two games, however is currently on a three-game losing skid in BIG EAST play.
Friday's contest will be broadcast by “Catch 47” (tape delay). Jim Louk (play-by-play) and Fred McGriff (color analyst) will call the action. The game will air April 30 at 9 p.m. and May 1 at 12 p.m.
