MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 19, 2006) ? A four-run inning by the Mountaineers in the bottom of the fourth proved to be the difference as the University of South Florida baseball team (23-33, 11-15 BIG EAST) fell to West Virginia (35-19, 14-12 BIG EAST), 5-3, on Friday, May 19 at Hawley Field.
Senior Brian Baisley led all USF hitters going 2-for-4, including an RBI triple in the top of the ninth. Addison Maruszak finished the night hitting 1-for-4 with an RBI single. Right fielder Joey Angleberger recorded his ninth double of the season
Sophomore Davis Bilardello suffered his seventh loss of the season, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out three batters in seven and two-thirds innings of action. Bilardello held the Mountaineers hitless through the first three innings before West Virginia scored four run on five hits in the bottom of the fourth. The Vero Beach, Fla., native threw 101 pitches on the night (68 for strikes).
The loss evened the weekend series at 1-all. The Bulls will need either a win versus the Mountaineers or a loss by Pittsburgh to Georgetown on Saturday to earn a spot in the 2006 BIG EAST Championship.
USF will look to take the weekend series with West Virginia as the two teams meet in the final game of the three-game set on Saturday, May 20. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 p.m.
