
USF Downs N.C. State During First Day of the Duke/adidas Classic, 2-0

Durham, N.C. (Sept. 1, 2006) ? The University of South Florida men's soccer team (2-1-0) used goals from Hunter West and Jordan Seabrook to down the N.C. State Wolfpack (1-2-0), 2-0, on Friday, Sept. 1 during the first day of the Duke/adidas Classic in Durham, N.C.
The Bulls notched two late goals to earn their second win of the season. West broke the 0-0 draw with his second goal of the season in the 76th minute. The Bradenton, Fla., native got behind the Wolfpack defense and toe-poked a shot from 12 yards out past N.C. State goalkeeper Christopher Widman. The goal, which proved to be the game-winner, was the 12th game-winning goal of West's career.
Seabrook added to USF's lead, scoring an insurance goal in the 82nd minute. Receiving a through-pass from midfielder Rodrigo Hidalgo, Seabrook got behind the defense a struck a shot into the back of the net to make the score 2-0. The goal was the first of the season for the Bulls' sophomore. Hidalgo was credited with his first assist of the season. The helper marked the 22nd of his career, moving the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy Candidate to within four assists of tying Mark Chung ('88-'92) and Brian Alvero ('98-'99) for eighth all-time in USF history.
Goalkeeper Dane Brenner notched his second shutout of the season and 14th of his career, making two saves on the night. The win is the second of the season for the High Point, N.C., native, who has tallied 29 for his career.
Neither team held the edge in shots as both squads registered 12 during the contest. The Bulls proved to be more accurate, recording seven shots on goal. USF's defense held N.C. State's offense to just two shots on net.
The win improved USF's record to 4-1-0 all-time versus N.C. State and marked the third clean sheet for the Bulls against the Wolfpack.
USF will close out the weekend tournament, facing host-institution Duke on Sunday, Sept. 3. Duke (3-0-0) defeated American University, 3-1, in the second game of the weekend classic. The Top 25 matchup will start at 7:30 p.m.
