USF WoMen's Soccer Drops BIG EAST Game To No. 11 Connecticut

STORRS, Conn. (September 24, 2006) ? The University of South Florida women's soccer team dropped their first BIG EAST game of the season, 3-0, to the No. 11 Connecticut Huskies Sunday afternoon in Storrs, Conn. The Bulls are now 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.

Meghan Schnur gave the Huskies an early 1-0 edge in the 16th minute when she capitalized on UConn's first scoring chance. Schnur secured the rebound of a Brittany Tegeler shot near the 18 and tallied the game's first goal. Schnur and the Huskies struck again in the 37th minute when Schnur corralled a loose ball just outside the box and beat Bull keeper Casey Garrett near post to put the Huskies ahead by two goals. UConn tacked on a third goal in the 41st minute when Karyn Riviere accepted a pass from Schnur then beat Garrett with a strike from inside the right corner of the Bull box.

The Bulls, who are averaging 13.9 shots and 6.0 shots on goal per game, struggled to kick-start their offense throughout the game, taking just three shots in 90 minutes. USF recorded no corner kicks in its third BIG EAST match up of the season.

Garrett made three saves in 90 minutes for the Bulls.

The Bulls now look ahead to Friday, Sept. 29 when they travel to South Orange, N.J. to play Seton Hall. The game will be played at the New Jersey Institute of Technology at 1 p.m. The game was previously scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Owen T. Carroll Field.
