USF Goalie Stops PK in 2-0 Loss

LOUISVILLE, Ky. ? University of South Florida sophomore goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi stopped a penalty kick by Louisville in the 39th minute of the Bulls' 2-0 loss to the Cardinals Sunday afternoon in Kentucky.
The save was Lofton-Malachi's first PK save of the year and her 60th overall this season.
The Cardinals took the early lead in the 27th minute, then added a second goal in the 70th to drop USF's BIG EAST record to 3-4-1 and its overall to 4-7-2. Louisville improves to 6-2-1 in the league and 11-3-2 overall.
"The ladies battled hard, but Louisville scored early on, so that hurt," said Coach Denise Schilte-Brown. "We played a lot better in the second half, winning most of the 50-50 balls, and the ladies really executed what we asked them to do, getting a lot more shots on goal."
Seven Bulls attempted shots in the game, led by two from Lisa Maria Bjorkvik. USF's six shots on goal are the fourth-highest this season, after taking nine against Syracuse (Oct. 12) and eight against both Villanova (Oct. 7) and Cincinnati (Oct.19).
The Bulls had more shots on goal, 6-5, for only the third time this season.
"We are disappointed we didn't get the result, but I thought we played well against a very good team on the road," continued Schilte-Brown. "We now are going to focus on Georgetown. We are definitely looking forward to playing at home again."
After the weekend in the Midwest, fans can see the Bulls in action one more time, when Georgetown comes to Tampa to play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23. USF then concludes the regular season the same way it began ? on the road. The Bulls head to West Virginia (Oct. 26) and Pittsburgh (Oct. 28), before possibly playing in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament Nov. 1.
