RICHMOND, Va. - USF freshman
Dominique Jones scored 30 points for the second straight game as the Bulls downed Richmond, 79-65, on the road Wednesday night for their sixth win in a row.
USF trailed 31-29 at halftime but took command of the game with a 19-2 run midway through the second half. Trailing 39-35, the Bulls hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 39-38 with 13:13 remaining. The Bulls continued the run over the next 3:48 making it 54-41 before Richmond scored again at the 9:25 mark.
Jones scored 10 of his 30 during the run and USF scored on seven straight possessions while holding Richmond to a field goal by Dan Geriot.
The Bulls have now won six straight games after starting off the year 0-3. USF last won six consecutive games to start the 2001-02 season, when it won seven in a row. The win at Richmond was USF's first in the all-time series in five games (1-4) against the Spiders.
Neither team led by more than four during the half.
Jones added 14 rebounds, leading USF to a 46-24 edge on the boards. The Bulls were 26-of-32 from the free-throw line, hitting 16 straight during the second half.
Chris Howard added 16 points for the Bulls, Orane Chin 11, and Jesus Verdejo 10.
Geriot led the Spiders (4-5) with 17 points.
