DELAND, Fla. (March 27 2007) ? The University of South Florida softball team split games against Stetson University on Tuesday afternoon, losing 2-1 and winning 1-0 at the Patricia Wilson Field in DeLand, Fla.
Kristen Gordon (9-4) lost game one, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. In game two, Courtney Mosch (6-2) picked up the complete game win, allowing four hits with six Ks while driving in the winning run. On the day, Mosch knocked in both of USF's runs and went 2-for-6.
In game one, Stetson (26-12) jumped out to a 2-0 lead off a Nicole Forbes home run in the first and an RBI single by Andrea Migliori in the third.
The Bulls (28-16) cut the deficit down to one in the fourth inning thanks to a Mosch run-scoring single. Tara Toscano led off the inning advancing to second base on an error and scored when Mosch hit the ball into right field.
USF stranded seven runners on base and had runners in scoring position three times. Stetson starter Erica Demers (10-3) allowed only five hits with four strikeouts in her complete game.
In game two, USF opened the scoring in the top of the first inning, 1-0. Kit Dunbar drew a two-out walk and scored off a Mosch RBI single. The Bulls loaded the bases but couldn't bring any more runs home.
Stetson only had runners in scoring position in two innings, but Mosch closed out the inning each time.
The Bulls will return home this weekend and open BIG EAST play, welcoming Rutgers on Friday at 2 p.m. and Villanova on Sunday at noon.
