USF Future Non-Conference Schedules | Notre Dame Football | Ball State Football
TAMPA ? USF Athletic Director Doug Woolard and head coach Jim Leavitt announced on Wednesday that the Bulls football team has reached an agreement to play Notre Dame in South Bend on Oct. 1, 2011.
“Our football program and fans deserve this type match up,” said Woolard. “It features one of the most storied programs in college football history against a young program that has risen to prominence at a record pace.”
The Bulls already have tradition rich Miami at Raymond James in 2011, now they have added a must-see road trip to the home of the Fighting Irish.
“I'm humbled and excited about adding Notre Dame to our schedule,” said USF head coach Jim Leavitt. “Games like this are what you work so hard for, they help further the image of this program and they present a great opportunity for our fans and players.
“The future of USF football is bright. We play in one of the toughest conferences in college football and we continue to build one of the best non-conference schedules year in and year out.”
The match up continues a trend of annual games with marquee opponents. The Bulls have traveled to play at several other cathedrals of college football, including Penn State (2005), Oklahoma (2002), Arkansas (2002), Alabama (2003), Auburn (2007) and Miami (2005).
In 2008 the Bulls travel to NC State (Sept. 27) and host 2008 Orange Bowl Champion Kansas (Sept. 13) at Raymond James Stadium.
“We will continue to work to develop a schedule that proves beneficial to our program and university,” said Woolard. “Wins like we had at Auburn this year have a positive impact on our football program and assist in continuing to brand the University of South Florida.
“I would also like to thank (Notre Dame AD) Kevin White and his staff for assisting in scheduling this game.”
USF also added a two-game series with Ball State that will begin on Sept. 10, 2011 in Tampa. The Bulls will make a return trip to Muncie, Indiana and Schuemann Stadium on Sept. 22, 2012.
Ball State played Rutgers in the 2008 International Bowl and finished 2007 with a 7-5 record.
The tilt with BSU fills in three of USF's non-conference games in 2012. USF also hosts Michigan State on Sept. 8 and travels to Miami on Nov. 24.
USF has never played Notre Dame or Ball State.
All game dates are tentative and subject to change.
