ESPN.com Blogger Brian Bennett
Friday and Saturday Blog? The AP
writes,"
Matt Grothe and South Florida are disappointed, though not discouraged. Quarterback Grothe and the No. 19 Bulls have had more than a week to ponder the team's first loss of the season and are eager to get back on track in the Big East against Syracuse on Saturday.
? Ryan Boyd of the Herald Tribune
writes,"Following the Bulls' first loss of the season ? 26-21 to Big East foe Pittsburgh on Oct. 2 at Raymond James Stadium ? USF had a bye week. The time off gave the Bulls plenty of time to think about how they'd respond to adversity."
? Brett Murphy
writes,"In the three previous meetings with Syracuse, the Bulls have dominated. Syracuse has led for exactly 4 minutes, 12 seconds of the 180 minutes, and USF has exceeded 500 yards in offense in the past two meetings, including a school-record 582 last season."
? Greg Auman features senior
offensive lineman Marc Dile.He writes," You have not read much about
Marc Dile here. At USF games, short of the starting lineups, you likely haven't heard his name called at Raymond James Stadium. And that suits the Bulls' senior right tackle just fine."

Daily Links ? A great feature article from Greg Auman on
Bulls safety Carlton Williams as he closes in on the USF starts record. Here are the first couple paragraphs.
"
Carlton Williams hadn't yet played a single snap at USF, hadn't suffered the slightest injury when assistant
Rich Rachel saw the freshman safety at practice in 2004 and told him he was "tough as a pine knot."
At the time, it was pure geography. Rachel knew Williams was a rare out-of-state Bull, hailing from just north of the border in Valdosta, Ga., which Rachel associated with pine trees.
But four years and 40 starts later, the comparison is a hearty one. Williams has endured countless injuries ? currently his hip and shoulder ? and played through them all without missing a game, embodying the toughness that USF wants from its entire defense."

? Auman takes break from football and takes a look at the upcoming USF men's basketball season.
? Tom Zebold of the Ledger writes,"'"I think we put it in the past. It's over," USF quarterback and former Lake Gibson standout Matt Grothe said. "We know we control our own destiny and just play one game at a time, and if we could win out, we think we have a really good chance of putting ourselves in a good situation."'

What They Are Saying in Syracuse
? SUAthletics.com writes, " Another ranked team awaits the 2008 football Orange this weekend. Syracuse will travel to play #19/20 South Florida on Saturday, Oct. 18 (12:00 p.m., BIG EAST Network) in Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. USF is the fifth team on Syracuse's schedule that has been ranked in the national polls this season."
? John Pitarresi of the Utica Hartford Observer writes,"Syracuse University was close. Again. After taking a 24-16 lead into the fourth quarter against Pittsburgh and losing, and then getting five yards away from the go-ahead touchdown against West Virginia with 4 minutes to play and losing again, what do the Orange have to do to earn a Big East victory and show that they really are improving?"
