
Women's Soccer Fall to Louisville, 2-0

TAMPA- The University of South Florida women's soccer team was unable to overcome two early scores this afternoon as the Louisville Cardinals defeated the Bulls, 2-0, at USF Soccer Stadium.
“I really think we came out and played hard,” said Bulls head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. “We are disappointed that we lost, but I think we did a lot of good things today and this weekend overall.”
The Bulls had some opportunities throughout the game but were unable capitalize. The Bulls outshot the Cardinals by a 14-10 margin and put seven shots on goal to the Cardinals five.
Junior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi made five saves on the afternoon pushing her season total to 101. She only trails Breck Bankester for most saves in a season in USF history. Bankester set the mark at 115 in 2003.
Louisville would do all their offensive damage in the short span of two minutes and 25 seconds.
At the 8:25 mark when Kelsey Hunyadi found an opening opposite of Lofton-Malachi thanks to passes from Shannon Smyth and Giselle Mangal.
The Cardinals would then add another score when Mangal beat Lofton-Malachi one-on-one off of a breakaway at 10:50.
“We are going to use this weekend to get better. We are excited to move forward to a very important pair of BIG EAST matches for us.” added Schilte-Brown.
USF will be home at USF Soccer for the final weekend of the regular season for with major BIG EAST tournament implications on the line.
On Friday, Oct. 24, the Bulls welcome the Pittsburgh Panthers, then the Bulls will host the West Virginia Mountaineers for Sunday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. . The regular season finale against WVU will be aired live on Bright House Sports Network.
