? Ryan Boyd of the Brandenton Herald writes,"There's a trend that South Florida's defense would like to stop. When the Bulls needed to shut down Pittsburgh's offense to preserve a two-point win, they didn't. When USF needed a final stop to secure a three-point victory over Louisville on Saturday, they couldn't. The Bulls fell to Pitt by five points and Louisville by four points.

? Alan Dell of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune writes,"Matt Grothe doesn't allow a loss to linger in his head. After a defeat, almost immediately he is thinking about the next opponent. But there is one exception to this Grothe rule. When it comes to Cincinnati, the University of South Florida quarterback doesn't forget."

What They're Saying in Cincinnati...
? Bill Koch of The Cincinnati Enquirer writes that the Bearcats "need to win at Nippert Stadium" and as well as, "USF has the best quarterback in the league in Matt Grothe, who leads the league in passing yardage, passing efficiency, total offense and passing touchdowns. He offers a combination of skills that no other Big East quarterback can match.“He gives you from a defensive perspective so many things that you have to concern yourself with,” Kelly said. “There's a lot of detail things that he causes you that maybe the average drop-back quarterback doesn't cause. When Matt scrambles, he's not looking to dump it off to the back. He will if he needs to but he wants to put the ball down the field. He wants to make big plays.”'

? Greg Auman writes,"On Saturday, USF coach Jim Leavitt initially sent his offense out, then used all three timeouts ? Louisville also used two ? before deciding to send Maikon Bonani out for the kick from the Louisville 8. To oversimplify things in hindsight, he settled for three points and his Bulls wound up losing by four."

? Tom Zebold of the Ledger writes,"Positivity and focus will help the Bulls. But the bottom line comes down to the USF needing all wins and even more luck the rest of the way to finish a once-promising season on top of the Big East."

? Bill Koch of The Cincinnati Enquirer writes,"But he didn't anticipate the slide in the Big East from first to a tie for last in turnover margin at minus-six, which is where the Bearcats stand today. "The only stat that really matters to me relative to turnover-takeaways is the plus-minus, and we're on the wrong side of that with six turnovers against UConn," Kelly said. There's no question the six UC turnovers vs. the Huskies' none pushed the Bearcats to the bottom of the league in that department, but even without that game, this defense has not been as opportunistic as it was last year.

? Brett McMurphy writes,"University of South Florida linebacker Tyrone McKenzie said Monday he was surprised he was penalized for defensive holding on a last minute Louisville field goal attempt and said the call was "awful."
