Greatest Comeback in USF History
Matt Grothe led the Bulls to the largest come-from-behind victory in program history when he ushered USF back from a 20-3 deficit to Kansas with 3:24 to play in the second quarter on Sept. 12. The Bulls ended up winning, 37-34, on a Maikon Bonani field goal as time expired.

With the score 20-3 , USF reeled off 31 straight points before KU tied the game the game at 34 only to have Bonani hit the game winner.

It was the fifth time in USF history that the Bulls dug out of a 10-point hole. It is the third time USF trailed by 10 points in the second half and come back to win. It was the first time USF has accomplished the feat against a ranked opponent. Below are the other comeback wins that were by 10 or more points.

They Said It...
"He's one of those guys that coaches always say you're not going to stop him, you just try to contain him. He's one of those guys for sure. He does some things on video where you sit there and (say) `you've got to be kidding me.' He's made people look silly at times scrambling around and you've got to have some way to try to keep him boxed in, which is very hard to do."
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano

“A defensive coordinators nightmare.”
ESPN's Chris Fowler

Matt Grothe is a gamer. He has showed if throughout his career.” ESPN Analyst Jesse Palmer

“Tough and Gritty... Matt Grothe can distribute the ball around the field.”
ESPN Analyst Chris Spielman

“He's probably the best quarterback we've seen so far this season because of the running ability. He's basically another running back for them. He's not scared to take a hit. He just lowers his shoulder and tries to run over people.”
Kansas Cornerback Chris Harris

“He's a magician."
Syracuse Linebacker Mike Mele

"Grothe, he's a heck of a player. He's a competitor and he's got a lot of heart. He's a tough kid. I hit him one time and he just got back up and smiled at me.”
Louisville Defensive Lineman Earl Heyman

“He offers a combination of skills that no other Big East quarterback can match. He gives, you from a defensive perspective, so many things that you have to concern yourself with. There's a lot of detail things that he causes [you to concern yourself with] that maybe the average drop-back quarterback doesn't cause. When Matt scrambles, he's not looking to dump it off to the back. He will if he needs to, but he wants to put the ball down the field. He wants to make big plays.”
Cincinnati head coach Brian Kelly

"It's so much fun watching Grothe improvise out of the pocket and make plays that few other QBs would even try."
ESPN.com Blogger Brian Bennett
