Storrs, Conn. - - In a match that consisted of persistent defense by both teams, the University of South Florida volleyball team was defeated by the University of Connecticut, 19-25, 19-25, 22-25 in Storrs, Conn. on Sunday afternoon.

The match was the fourth consecutive loss for the Bulls, who now sit at 15-12, 5-7 while the Huskies continue their successful season at 20-7, 9-3. 

USF could not spoil UConn's senior night, as the Bulls were held to a team .053 hitting percentage and for the first time on the road this season, no individual reached double-digit kills.

Senior middle blocker Nakia Williams tied for the team-high in kills with Marcela Gurgel with seven, but it was Williams who tied for the match-high in total blocks with four.  Fellow senior Cynthia Danthon chipped in with five kills and also had three digs.

Stephanie Augustavo, USF's libero, worked hard against a very balanced and widely spread Husky offense by racking up a dozen digs on the afternoon and helped hold UConn to just a .184 team hitting mark.

The Bulls, for the first time this season, were unable to convert an ace during the match while UConn tallied five, including three from freshman setter Annie Luhrsen.

Despite the struggling road stretch that USF just endured, the Bulls still have a good shot at reaching the BIG EAST Championships on Nov. 21-23 in Pittsburgh, Pa.  With upcoming home matches against Seton Hall on Friday and Villanova on Sunday, if the Bulls are able to pull out a weekend sweep, it appears very likely that the team will be returning to the Fitzgerald Field House for the second time during the 2008 season.
