Bulls Take Down Eagles 7-0

TAMPA, Fla. ? The No. 31 University of South Florida men's tennis team defeated the Winthrop Eagles, 7-0, Thursday afternoon behind a strong showing from freshman Michael Nusslein at the No. 5 singles position.
The win brings USF's record to 11-4 on the season extending their home win streak to 11.
“We're learning how to play with confidence at home,” said USF head coach Don Barr. “The guys understand how important it is to protect our house.”
USF continued their strong doubles play during the second half of the season, beating Winthrop in all three doubles matches, giving USF a 1-0 match lead.
The doubles tandem of Diego Toledo and Lucas Jovita clinched the point for the Bulls at the No. 2 spot, edging the Winthrop duo, 8-7 and 10-4 in the tiebreaker. The win brings their doubles record to a pristine 7-0 on the season.
Freshman Nusslein hasn't given up a game in the past two matches, as he easily defeated Jose Pardo at the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-0. The victory brings his season record to 10-3.
“Michael is coming on strong as of late and is really gaining confidence,” said Barr. “He's learning how to close out matches and play an aggressive game on the court.”
Sophomore Thomas Estrada clinched the point for USF with his 6-0, 6-2 win over Arthur Takashashi, 6-0, 6-2. Estrada now stands at 12-2 on the season.
Also picking up victories on the afternoon was No. 81 Jovita ( 11-4), Mahmoud Hamed (4-7), Diego Toledo (11-4) and Jamal Adderley (12-2)
USF returns the courts on March 30 when they face cross-state rivals, Central Florida at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for Noon.
