CLEARWATER, Fla. ? Pinch hitter Laura Wolf delivered the game winning hit as the Bulls defeated North Carolina State 4-3 in nine innings in the second game of the day at the USF Under Armour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla.
Wolf's single to right center pushed Tampa native Lauren Rodriguez past home plate to improve the Bulls to 13-8 for the season.
Down 3-0 at the bottom of the fifth and with two runners on base, freshman pinch hitter Kendall Arnold approached the batter's box to face relief pitcher Lindsay Campana. Arnold's double down the left line broke the shut out as freshman Kelly McCarver crossed home plate.
Junior Britta Giddens cut the Wolfpack's lead in the next at bat when Kit Dunbar reached first and advanced to second on an error by NC State's first baseman Lisa Nentwig.
Tara Toscano dove into home beating the throw from NC State's pitcher to tie the game at three and send the game into extra innings.
Senior Courtney Mosch, the third USF pitcher to enter the circle, came into the game in the top of the sixth to relieve Kristen Gordon. Mosch allowed only one hit and finished off the game shutting out the Wolfpack in four innings pitched.
Mosch collected her ninth win of the season and second of the day as the Bulls remain undefeated through the weekend.
USF will get back on the field at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday to take on Jacksonville University on day three of the USF Under Armour Invitational.
The Bulls will meet the USA National Team to highlight the invitational at 6:30 p.m. in front of a sold out crowd at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
