Storrs, Conn. ? The University of South Florida baseball team lost the second-straight game to Connecticut, 12-5, Saturday morning at J.O. Christian Field.
Senior Chris Rey collected a pair of doubles and redshirt freshman Todd Brazeal added a two-bagger of his own to the team's 10-hit outing. The Bulls have recorded at least 10 hits in 16 games this season.
Junior lefty Teddy Kaufman made his first-career BIG EAST Conference start, striking out four, but allowed five earned runs in 4.0 innings to take the loss. Junior Andrew Salgueiro pitched two-thirds of an inning before being relieved by sophomore Zach Pietrzyk, who gave up four runs from four hits while striking out two in 3.1 innings.
Sophomores Ryan Lockwood and Jonathan Koscso each tagged a pair of hits in USF's second BIG EAST loss of the year.
After being down 3-0 after the first inning, USF scored two in both the fourth and fifth, but UConn answered with nine over the final five innings to take the 12-5 victory.
Connecticut's first three runs were scored on a home run by George Springer.
The Bulls got on the board in the fourth as Todd Brazeal tagged a two-out double then Stephen Hunt drew a walk in time for Chris Rey to double to left center.
UConn added two in the bottom of the inning from another home run, a walk and a double.
Peter Brotons led off the fifth by drawing a walk and Lockwood singled up the middle to put a pair of runners on base. Koscso put down a sac bunt to move them into scoring position then Brazeal sent a two-out, two-RBI single to left.
Brotons again got on base to lead the seventh inning, this time with a base hit up the middle. Koscso sent a one-out single to left field to plate Brotons.
The Huskies collected three in the fifth, added one in the sixth and plated three in the final two innings to take the 12-5 victory.
