The Bulls endured another two hour practice on Monday morning, one day after working out in a heat index that was recorded at 112 degrees.

USF stayed on a late for 'fifth quarter', which is a three-on-three full contact drill, that works short yardage situations and the inside run game. What's different is that it isn't just offensive line vs. defensive line, it's also receivers vs. secondary and tight ends vs. linebackers.

The offense closed practice strong in "fifth quarter" and one fan favorite running back earned praise from Coach Leavitt.

When asked who stood out from the practice, Coach Leavitt said, "Mike Ford looked good today. He's was strong in three-on-three."

The Bulls were scheduled to lift but because of the combination of 'fifth quarter' and the looming two-a-day on Tuesday, the workout session was canceled.

The players will have meetings this afternoon and evening, before hitting the field at 8:30 for the first of two practices on Tuesday.

Franks on the Running Backs
“Today was really the first day of football since we have been back," said Carl Franks. "Everybody (the running backs) looked good today. We worked on fundamentals and things that we think will get our guys better. One of the things that we are stressing is getting the pads down when the backs are running. A lot of times we get players who come in here and don't run with their pads down because when they are in high school they may be faster or more athletic than the players they are going against. But for the most part today was a good day for the backs.”

Virgin Moving Up, Battles Switches Sides
High school quarterback and newly-named tigth end Isaac Virgin is, "coming on strong," according to head coach Jim Leavitt. Tight Ends GA coach Steve Bird said Virgina was, "Great."

It is impressive kudos considering he has only worked at the position for two days and it speaks to his ahtleticism that he is able to make the change and have an immediate impact on the staff.

Fellow true-freshman Bradley Battles asked the coaching staff if he could move from running back to defensive back and they obliged.

Coach Leavitt thought he should stay at running back, but he let Battles make the decision. Leavitt also added that Battles is expected to redshirt this season, since the depth in the secondary and backfield is strong.
