TAMPA -The University of South Florida women's soccer team opened up their 2009 BIG EAST schedule tonight in Milwuakee, Wisc. against the Golden Eagles of Marquette. USF entered tonight's game with a 2-3-1 record while Marquette came in with a record of 5-2-1.
Both teams played great defefnse the entire night and it was Marquette in the end that was able to pull out the win with a 2-1 victory over USF.
Both teams played great defense during the game which kept the game close. Marquette gained the first lead of the game when Rachel Sloan scored her first goal of the 2009 season for Marquette at the 20:32 mark. Marquette would go into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The Bulls came into the second half looking for a goal to tie the game. Chelsea Klotz would help the Bulls tie things up between Marquette when she scored her first goal of the season at the 62:53 mark with an assist from Taylor Patterson.
The goal marked Klotz's sixth career goal and second of the season. The assist was Patterson's third of the season with all three coming in the last three matches.
Down 1-0 sophomore Chelsea Klotz would respond for the Bulls to even up the score. Klotz would take a feed from freshman Taylor Patterson to in the 63rd minute.
However the Bulls would not be able to hold the lead as Kerry McBride would tally the game-winner in the 88th minute to give the final 2-1 verdict.
Senior Keeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi would tally would save four shots but allowed the two goals to take the loss for the Bulls.
Marquette held a 17-9 advantage in shots but just 6-5 margin in shots on goa. Six Bulls, Patterson, Angelique Waller, Bahar Sansar,Brittany Pilon, Boo Eagle and Lofton-Malachi would play the enitre 90 minutes
The Bulls now 2-4-1 on the season will return to the Sunshine State but will then travel to Deland to close out their non-conference slate when they take on Stetson at noon on Sept. 20.
