The University of South Florida women's basketball team dropped its BIG EAST home opener to Georgetown Saturday night, 66-52, at the USF Sun Dome.
Senior Jessica Lawson collected her seventh double-double of the season as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Hoyas' press was too much for the Bulls' offense, as Georgetown forced USF into 31 turnovers and held the Bulls to just 37 percent shooting from the field. The Hoyas turned the 31 turnovers into 31 points off of turnovers.
The USF defense responded, and were able to force Georgetown into 23 turnovers of their own. |

Senior Jessica Lawson collected her seventh double-double of the season as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
The Hoyas' press was too much for the Bulls' offense, as Georgetown forced USF into 31 turnovers and held the Bulls to just 37 percent shooting from the field. The Hoyas turned those 31 USF turnovers into 31 points.
The USF defense was able to force Georgetown into 23 turnovers on the night.
Freshman KaNeisha Saunders scored 10 points and added four rebounds while picking up a pair of steals in the effort.
Junior Leondra Doomes-Stephens was the third Bull to score in double-digits on the night, as she added a career-high 11 points and picked up four steals.
Lawson scored the team's first three points of the game on a free throw and a layup both coming less than a minute into the game.
The Hoyas responded by hitting three shots from beyond the arc, giving them a 10-8 lead four minutes into the contest.
The Bulls stuggled from long-distance early on, connecting on just one three-pointer in six attempts in the first nine minutes of the opening half.
With just under seven minutes left in the opening half, Saunders pulled down a defensive rebound and took the ball coast-to-coast for the layup to cut the Hoya lead to 17-13.
Georgetown answered back immediately by connecting on back-to-back three pointers and extend its lead to 10, 23-13 with 6:20 left in the half.
Saunders cut through the Hoyas' defense and hit a floater in the lane to make the game 24-15 with just under four minutes remaining.
USF went on a run and cut the lead to 29-23 before the Hoyas connected on a deep three with eight seconds remaining in the half and went to the locker room up, 32-23.
The Bulls opened up the second half on a 3-0 run, but the Hoyas turned it on and went on a 9-0 run of their own, extending their lead to 41-26.
The Hoyas held the Bulls to just four shots in the first ten minutes of the second half.
Georgetown extended their lead to as much as 24 points on a three-pointer by Sugar Rodgers with 7:08 left in the contest, and held on to win 66-52.
