TAMPA - After taking an early 1-0 lead the University of South Florida women's soccer team (6-3-2, 1-2-1) dropped a 3-1 decision at No. 22 Georgetown Friday afternoon at North Kehoe Field in Washington, D.C.
USF started fast by taking an early 1-0 advantage just minutes into the match.
Junior Venicia Reid got the Bulls on the board first with a header past Hoya keeper Jackie Desardin from the near post off a cross from Chelsea Klotz.
The goal was sixth of the season for Reid, who is second on the team in scoring behind Klotz.
The Bulls would nurse the 1-0 advantage until the 29th minute as Georgetown's Camille Trujillo tallied the equalizer in the 29th minute after initial shot was blocked inside the box by the USF defense.
The two teams took the match into half time knotted at one with Georgetown holding a 10-4 advantage in shots.
The Hoyas came out and struck quickly to start the second half and took the lead with a goal in the 53rd minute by Amy Speck off a shot from 20-yards away with the assist by Kailey Blain.
The goal would prove to be the game winner.
Georgtown would go on and tack on a third goal in the 79th minute which ultimately led Bulls head coach Denise Schilte-Brown to replace Nicole McClure in goal. After picking up BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week honors this past weekend, McClure made four saves but allowed three goals in 80 minutes of action.
The Bulls made a few late charges in hopes of drawing closer but were unable to slip any more past the Hoya keeper.
On the match, USF was outshot, 16-6, and Georgetown held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
With the win, Georgetown moves to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in BIG EAST action.
The Bulls will continue their weekend road trip when they take on Villanova on Sunday, Oct. 3 at noon.
