Patterson Leads Bulls to 1-0 Win at Villanova

TAMPA - Taylor Patterson provided all the scoring the University of South Florida women's soccer team (7-3-2, 2-2-1 Big East) needed as the Bulls downed Villanova, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the West Campus Soccer Complex in Villanova, Pa.
Patterson's blast from 30 yards out in the 25 minute proved to be all the Bulls would need to register their second win in BIG EAST play. The goal is the third for Patterson who is now third on the team in scoring with three goals on the season.
Junior captain Valorie O'Brien picked up the assist on the play score beinging her season total to four, good for the team the lead.
Patterson has now scored in three of the Bulls last five matches.
With a 1-0 lead, the Bulls would settle in defensively and protect the lead the rest of the way.
After a shaky open to the weekend, goalkeeper Nicole McClure picked up her fourth shutout of the season and the third in four matches. She collected three saves while playing all 90:00 minutes in goal for USF.
USF made the most of their shots on goal by slipping one of two shots on goal past Villanova keeper Jami Kranich. On the day, USF was outshot 12-7.
USF is 2-1-2 on the road so far in 2010.
Following this weekend, USF will hit the road for one last weekend before returning to Tampa for the final four matches of the regular season. Next weekend the Bulls will head a little farther north into New England as they will take on Providence on Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. and then head to Storrs,Conn. to take on UConn at noon.
