
Bulls Downed at Connecticut, 3-0

TAMPA – In their final regular season road match of the seaon, the University of South Florida women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at Connecticut Sunday afternoon at the at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn.
The Huskies used a pair of first half goals to take control of the match. Sophomore Linda Ruutu scored what would prove to be the game-winner in the 34th minute. Elise Fugowski put UConn ahead, 2-0, three minutes later.
UConn's Angelika Johansson, the Huskies leading scorer, made it 3-0 after goalkeeper Nicole McClure could not possess a save leaving an open net for Johansson in the 51st minute.
McClure made seven on the afternoon after tallying nine saves on Friday afternoon against Providence.
USF struggled throughout the match to get in sync offensively. The Bulls were held to just four shots on the afternoon with only two shots on net in 90 minutes of play.
UConn finished the game with an 18-4 edge in shots and held the advantage in corners, 4-2.
Coupled with Providence's loss today to Marquette, USF remains tied for fourth in the BIG EAST American Division heading into the final four games of the regular season.
With eight points, USF sits two points ahead of both Syracuse and St. John's. The top five teams in each division, seeded by conference point total, qualify for the championship.
Following today's match,, USF returns home for the final four matches of the regular season.
The Bulls will host Louisville on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and then Cincinnati on the following Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
