TAMPA - Coming off the bench for the first time this season, junior Chelsea Klotz scored the Bulls lone goal in the 34th minute to tie the match at one as the University of South Florida women's soccer team (7-3-2, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) played Providence (8-3-2, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) to a 1-1 draw Friday afternoon at Glay Field.
Down 1-0 after Providence's Amanda Webster tallied her sixth goal of the season in the 22nd minute, Klotz corralled a failed clearance off a corner kick by Providence at the 18 yard box and blasted her team leading 10th goal off the cross bar and into the back of the net to even the match at one.
Klotz, who did not start for the first time this season dueto a hampering foot injury, played the remaining 98 minutes of the match after entering the match at the 11:55 mark.
Klotz's 10 goals on the season, which is tied for sixth most in a season by a Bull, is a career-high after scoring nine in 2009.
Neither team was able to cash in on their opportunities for the remainder of regulation or in the 20 minutes of overtime.
Despite allowing one goal on the match, the Bulls got a solid effort from junior goalkeeper Nicole McClure, who made save after save to preserve the tie. On the day she made a career-high nine saves, including two in overtime.
On the day, USF was outshot, 20-10, by the Friars, which also held a 9-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Klotz led the way offensively for the Bulls registering five shots on the match with a match-high three on goal.
The Bulls will wrap up the weekend in Storrs, Conn., to taking on UConn on Sunday at noon.
