USF Players Augustus Gilchrist and Jarrid Famous
TAMPA -Â Â The University of South Florida men's basketball team got a much needed win today against Georgia Southern, 76-63, at the USF Sun Dome.
USF's front court consisting of Jarrid Famous, Toarlyn Fitzpatrick, Augustus Gilchrist and Ron Anderson Jr. had its best game of the season, scoring 18 of the team's first 21 points.
Gilchrist led the team in scoring with a season high 23 points, going a perfect 8-8 from the field tying the school record with his 100 percent shooting performance.
Fitzpatrick gave the Bulls a huge spark off the bench, nearly getting a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing nine rebounds which were both season highs, in only 16 minutes.
Famous had a season high 12 points and Anthony Crater had a career high seven assists for the Bulls.
USF started fast going on a 9-0 run to begin the game. The Bulls held a 39-30 lead at the half, their largest halftime lead of the season so far.
The Bulls got off to another good start in the second half, gaining a 17-point lead behind a 12-2 run midway through the half. Georgia Southern responded by going on a 9-0 run to cut the Bulls' lead to eight.
However, USF rebounded quickly going on another 12-2 run to regain their 17-point lead with four minutes left in the game and cruised home from there.
After grabbing the early 2-0 lead on a pair of Famous free throws, the Bulls led the entire way, never surrendering the lead to the Eagles.
Four players scored in double figures for the Bulls for the first time this year, including Gilchrist (23), Fitzpatrick (13), Famous (12)Â and Poland (10).
USF shot 60 percent from the field and scored 76 points, which were both season highs.
The Bulls are now 2-2 and host Liberty on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

- Augustus Gilchrist scored a season high 23 points with a perfect 8-of-8 performance from the floor, which ties him for the USF record with the best shooting percentage in a game.
- Anthony Crater dished out a career high seven assists against GSU.
- Toarlyn Fitzpatrick tied his careeer high in scoring and just missed a double-double by one rebound in his 13-point, 9-rebound night. He added two blocks, two assists and a 2-of-3 night from long range to his stat line. The sophomore collected these numbers in just 16 minutes on the court.
