QUEENS, N.Y.- The University of South Florida volleyball team could not stop St. John's defensively on Friday night, as the Bulls were blanked by the Red Storm, 3-0.

The Bulls outhit and outblocked the Red Storm in the opening two sets, but could not slow down St. John's balanced attack, which had six players record at least five kills.

USF struggled to handle the Red Storm offensive attack, collecting 28 digs, 10 from Janice Rivera, but allowed 43 kills on the night to St. John's.

The Bulls did not help themselves in the match, committing seven serving errors and adding 15 attack errors in the loss.

Allie Boaz, who has been named to three of the past four BIG EAST Weekly Honor Rolls, was stellar yet again for the Bulls, picking up 19 kills and hitting .306 against the Red Storm, while adding four block assists.

Kamika Rozier, who got the start again for USF, adding a fresh attack opposite Boaz, recording eight kills, while hitting .467 on the night.

J'beria Davis, added seven kills to the mix, hitting .263.

USF as a team, outblock St. John's 11.5 to 3.0, , and were led by Rozier, who blocked seven total shots, including a pair of solo blocks.

Kelsey Palmer made her first start of the season for the Bulls and was solid up front, getting a pair of kills in five attempts and adding four blocks on the night.

It looked good offensively for the Bulls early on, as they hit .348 as a team in the opening set, but struggled defensively, allowing 30 total attacks from St. John's, who took the opening frame, 25-16.

It was more of the same in the second set, as USF got eight kills from Boaz in set two, but could not limit the SJU attack. The Bulls hung around with the Red Storm, eventually cutting their lead to just one, but SJU was able to take the set, 25-23.

USF, who has earned a reputation as a tough out when they trail by two sets, came out in the third, looking to get some momentum going. The Bulls fell behind early in the set, but kept it tight until the end. St. John's led 24-21, but the Bulls fought off three straight match points, but the rally was too little too late, as SJU reeled off back to back points to take the set, 26-24, and the match in straight sets.

The Bulls, who are looking to improve their stock in the BIG EAST Standings heading into postseason play, will travel to Storrs, Conn. for a bout with UConn on Sunday.
