TAMPA - The University of South Florida volleyball team has added middle blocker
Liz Barton to the team for the 2010 season. Barton is a 6-1, 2010 Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) First Team member, who was recently named one of the 2010 Sports Imports Girls Fab 50.
"We have gotten the total package with Liz," head coach Claire Lessinger said. "She is a phenomenal student and a heck of a player. Her commitment to athletics and academics will help USF reach new heights. Liz is an impact player and person and I look forward to coaching her."
In 2009, Barton had 320 kills and 153 digs for Notre Dame Academy. Additionally, she served up 37 aces while adding 41 solo blocks.
Other awards Barton has collected are: All-Tournament District Team, Most Valuable Player in the Regional Tournament, NKGHSVCA Division I First Team, NKAC All-Conference Team, Enquirer All-State and KVCA Second Team All-State.
In addition to volleyball, Barton is a success in the classroom. She was named the 2009 PrepVolleyball Academic All-America Highest Honorable Mention and a 2008 and '09 Academic First Team All-State.
Of the court, Barton is a student ambassador at Notre Dame, where she volunteers at Peaslee Neighborhood Center, working with underprivileged children.
