TAMPA - Junior Stephen Hunt's three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning powered the University of South Florida baseball team (16-16, 8-1)  to a 6-2 victory over Georgetown (16-15, 2-6) and a three-game series sweep on Sunday afternoon.

"Matt (Quevedo) really stepped up for us and gave us another solid start," said Bulls head coach Lelo Prado. "Our pitching has been very good, but offensively I still think we have a number of things we need to improve upon."

With two on and one out in a scoreless game in the third inning, Hunt connected on a 1-0 pitch and sent a mammoth drive over the right field wall to score Andrew Longley and Jonathan Koscso. Both reached after being hit by a pitch by Hoya starter Tommy Isaacs.

The blast gave the Bulls a lead that they did not relinquish.

USF went on to push across one run in fourth and fifth and then tacked on an insurance run in the seventh.

The Bulls chased Hoyas starter Tommy Isaacs after just 3.0 innings of work.

Making his second straight spot Sunday start, senior Matt Quevedo answered the call again for the Bulls.

The Tampa Catholic product gave the Bulls 5.1 innings of work, yielding just one run while scattering seven hits and striking out two.

Quevedo (2-0) did not allow a run until the sixth inning when William Cupelo singled to score Hoya lead-off man Tommy Lee.

That would be all for Quevedo, who gave way to reliever Doug Wagner.

With two on a one out, Wagner came in and got Dave Capeless to bounce into an inning ending 3-6-1 double play to squash any type of Hoya rally.

Senior Andrew Salguiero came in to finish the job for the 'Green and Gold'. The right hander allowed one run while he earned the 3.0 inning save. The save is the first of the season for Salguiero and first of his career.

On the day, USF pitchers did not walk a batter.

Offensively, the Bulls and Hoyas each collected eight hits apiece. Hunt, Alex Mendez and Junior Carlin all collected two hits. USF batters were hit by Georgetown pitches five times on the afternoon.

With the win, the Bulls move to .500 for the first time this season and their 8-1 start in league play is the best start since joining the BIG EAST.

USF is in sole possesion of first place in the conference. The Bulls are one game ahead of Rutgers and Connecticut, who both sit at 7-2 in league play.

The Bulls will not have a mid-week game this week and will travel to Piscataway, NJ to take on the Rutgers for a crucial conference series on April 16-18. Rutgers' is now 6-2 and in third place in the conference.
