vs. Rutgers| April 18 | 1 p.m. | Piscataway, N.J.

PISCATAWAY, N.J.- - Junior lefthander Andrew Barbosa deserved a better fate.

Looking for his fifth consecutive win in as many starts, Barbosa allowed just two runs over 7.0 solid innings of work but it was not enough as the University of South Florida baseball team (16-18 Overall, 8-3 BIG EAST) drop a 6-1 decision to Rutgers (20-13, 9-2) at Bainton Field in Piscataway, N.J.

Barbosa (4-2) scattered six hits while striking out eight Scarlet Knights on the afternoon. Making his ninth start of the season, Barbosa went over 6.2 innings for just the second time this season however the lefty has went more than five innings in every start this season.

Both pitchers faced the minimum through the first two innings.

With two outs in the third, Rutgers scored first by plating a run after Alex Mendez miss played a line drive off the bat of Michael Lang to score Russ Hopkins.

The Bulls then evened up the score in the sixth.

With one out and Chad Taylor standing on second, Junior Carlin sent a drive to center which bounced over the wall for a ground rule double to even up the score, 1-1.

Taylor singled three times on the afternoon, marking his first three-hit game as a Bull but USF was out hit 11-7 by the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers answered in sixth with a run of its own and from there they shut down the Bulls offensive attack.

In the eighth, Rutgers' Steve Nyistor greeted Bulls reliever Kyle Eastham with a solo shot to left to make it 3-1. The Scarlet Knights added three more runs in the inning.

With the loss, the Bulls fall out of first place in conference play.

The Bulls will look to avoid the sweep in Sunday's get away game. Right hander Matt Quevedo will look for his third win in as many starts. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
