The Transformation of the Red is Underway

TAMPA - It is a busy time on the campus of the University of South Florida with the construction of the USF Athletics District well underway.

The district is an undertaking which figures to change the face and course of USF Athletics.

With the demolition of Red McEwen Field almost complete, the erection of the new USF Baseball and Softball complex will begin shortly after the demolition.

The stands have been dissembled, taken down and donated to Tampa Catholic HS. The Press box has been removed and much of the fencing surrounding the field has started to be torn down leaving just the field that now has construction workers pick-up trucks on it instead of ball players.

The east side of Bull Run Drive is lined with construction cones, construction trucks and cranes. The new baseball stadium will remain on the same footprint as the existing field, but will be turned around with home plate place in the right field corner of the current lay out which will create a concourse and ticketing area that will be shared with the new softball stadium.

The softball stadium will be located just to the south of the baseball stadium as the two complexes will share an entry concourse.

The baseball stadium will include all the amenities associated with a state-of-the-art facility; step-down team dugouts, bullpens, covered batting cages, multiple party pavilions, a press box and a 1,500 seat spectator grandstand with a shade canopy, an elevated shaded entertainment or hospitality deck and full concessions.

The capacity of the stadium will be over 3,000 and additional seating can be added in order to host NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals.

A couple hundred yards away, the Les and Pam Muma Basketball Center is set to take form to the south of the Sun Down.
