TAMPA - Â The University of South Florida men's basketball team got its first true road win of the season with an 86-76 victory at DePaul on Saturday.
Augustus Gilchrist continued his strong play of late, scoring a career-high 32 points to lead the Bulls to their third BIG EAST win.
Jarrid Famous (15), Shaun Noriega (13) and Hugh Robertson (12) also reached double figures in the game while Ron Anderson, Jr. grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds. Brandon Young led DePaul with 23 points.
USF (9-20, 3-13 BIG EAST) never trailed in the second half, and put the game away at the free-throw line with 12 conversions in the final four minutes. DePaul (7-21, 1-15 BIG EAST), rallied to within two points at 63-61 with nine minutes to play, but the Bulls responded with a 9-2 run over the next six minutes, handling the DePaul press for easy baskets or trips to the foul line.
The Bulls led by 13 points, 41-28, heading into the locker room after ending the first period on a 12-2 run. The Blue Demons had cut the Bulls' lead to just three at 29-26 with 4:01 to play, but USF scored on five out of its last six possessions, including eight points from Gilchrist.
The Bulls utilized a 10-2 run earlier in the half to open a 25-17 lead, but saw most of that effort negated by four different Blue Demons scoring over the next five minutes.
USF shot 57.1 percent (28-49) from the field and 58.3 percent (7-12) from three. DePaul struggled from long range, converting only six of 23 attempts. The Bulls also dominated on the glass, outrebounding DePaul 33-19.
USF returns to the Sun Dome on March 2 for its home finale vs. Pittsburgh at 9 p.m.
