TAMPA - In their first midweek game of the 2011 season, the University of South Florida baseball team will clash with Miami on Tuesday, March 1 as part of the 2011 Florida Four held at Steinbrenner Stadium in Tampa.
With a 4:05 p.m. first pitch, the game will be the first of two at the Spring Training Home of the New York Yankees. In the second game, No. 1 Florida will take on No. 6 Florida State immediately following the completion of USF-Miami.
Both games will be televised live on the Bright House Sports Network with JB Long and Mike LaValliere. The game can also be seen on Comcast Sports South.
The game can be heard live on 1010 CBS Sports on your AM dial as well through BullsVision audio on GoUSFBulls.com.
Junior LHP Matt Reed will make the start for the Bulls on the mound. He has made two appearances so far in 2011, both out of the bullpen, with both coming in the season-opening series at Florida. He will face off against Miami's Steven Ewing, who started in last season's Florida Four. Ewing went 6.1 innings allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking one to pick up the win over USF.
USF will look to avenge a pair of losses from 2010 against the Canes. The Bulls fell to their Hurricanes in last year's Florida Four, 15-2, and dropped a 14-7 decision to the 'Canes in Coral Gables.
This meeting marks the 110th meeting between USF and Miami. Miami leads the all-time series 82-29. The Bulls' last win in the series came via a 7-2 win in Tampa on March 16, 2004. Bulls head coach Lelo Prado is 0-3 in his coaching career against the Hurricanes.
Following Tuesday night's contest, the Bulls will return home to their new stadium to host Florida A&M for a three-game set this coming weekend. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the USF Baseball Stadium. The Bulls and the Rattlers will clash again at 7 p.m. on Saturday and then end the series with a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
