
Bulls Host Evansville for Three Game Series

TAMPA - Looking to get back on track, the University of South Florida baseball team will welcome Evansville to the USF Baseball Stadium for a three-game set beginning Friday, March 11.
Similar to last weekend, the Bulls will play Friday evening with first pitch at 7 p.m. following the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the new USF Baseball and Softball Stadiums. On Saturday, the Bulls will take on the Purple Aces in a double-header beginning at 4 p.m.
All three games can be heard live on 1010 CBS Sports with the voice of the Bulls, Jim Louk, and Mike Pepper bringing you the action on your AM dial. In addition, fans can listen through BullsVision audio on GoUSFBulls.com.
Fans can purchase tickets for baseball at the USF ticket office or can buy in advance by calling 1-800-GoBulls between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. (EST) Monday-Friday. Tickets can also be purchased online through the USF Ticket Zone on GoUSFBulls.com.
Senior RHP Randy Fontanez is scheduled to take the mound in game one of Satruday's doouble header. Fontanez is coming off 8.0 scoreless innings in his last outing against Florida A&M picking up his first win of the season. Fontanez comes into the start having thrown 15.0 consecutive scoreless innings. In his last start vs. Florida A&M on March 4, Fontanez stepped into the batter's box for the first time in his career, hitting a single and went 1-for-2 in the game.
With senior LHP Andrew Barbosa still out, the Bulls will go with senior RHP Kyle Eastham on Friday night. Eastham, the 3/7 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, was nearly unhittable in his first start of the season. The Riverview HS product fanned 11 Florida A&M batters over the course of seven scoreless innings of work. He did not allow a walk on the day, pounding the strike zone as 68 of his 94 pitches found the strike zone. In four appearances, Eastham is 1-0 on the season with a 1.29 ERA.
Freshman LHP Nick Gonzalez will make the start in the finale after picking up his first career win against FAMU on March 5. Against the Rattlers, he did not yield a walk, he went six innings, striking out a career-high eight batters and giving up only two hits to earn his first career win with the program.
The meeting with Evansville will be the first all-time for the Bulls. USF is 2-4 all-time against members of the Missouri Valley Conference (2-1 vs. Indiana State and 0-3 vs. Wichita State).
Following this weekend, USF will travel to Orlando to take on UCF on Tuesday, March 15 in a game will be broadcasted by Bright House Sports. The Bulls will then leave home for the time during their non-conference weekends for a split four game series with Bethune-Cookman on March 17-20. The first two game of the series will be in Daytona and the final two games will be in Tampa. USF will not leave the state of Florida during the non-conference portion of their schedule.
