Bulls Block Way to Big Road Win

The Bulls (14-12 overall, 6-7 BIG EAST) used a season-high 21 blocks, including six in the fourth set, to usurp Pittsburgh in a crucial conference match, winning in five sets. USF out-blocked the Panthers (14-13, 5-8) 21-10 to make up for a deficit in kills, assists and digs, and came back with fourth and fifth-set wins after falling behind 2-1. Senior middle blocker Caitlyn Breen knocked out four kills in six swings in the fourth set, and added three blocks to help the Bulls get off to a quick start in the fourth, and lead throughout the set for force the fifth. USF kept rolling in the fifth, using four kills from three different players and a service ace to jump out to a 6-1 lead in the short set. Senior J'beria Davis and junior Andrea Rodriguez Gomez each notched three kills as the Bulls completed the match on a Davis kill, her 14th of the day. Rodriguez Gomez hit .308 with 12 kills and nine blocks, while freshman Erin Fairs added 11 kills and 15 digs. Freshman Ciara Brown hit a team-high .350 with eight kills while adding eight blocks, while Breen contributed seven kills and eight blocks. USF returns to action Tuesday, hosting Florida A&M in non-conference action at The Corral.
