TAMPA - Facing their 11th ranked opponent on the season, the Bulls collected perhaps their biggest win thus far over No. 29 Notre Dame in their first Big East match of the year.
USF won 4-3 against the Irish after over four hours of play Saturday afternoon at the USF Varsity Courts.
"It was a good win for us. We've been so close, and had a lot of good matches and just haven't been able to get over the hump in a 4-3 win," said head coach Don Barr.
This marks USF's second win over a ranked team, the last one against the University of Pennsylvania on March 8.
USF was able to get the doubles point, with partners Yannick Yoshizawa and Oliver Pramming winning 8-5 over their no. 49 opponents and partners Federico Sabogal and Wael Kilani winning 8-2.
Oliver Pramming defeated his opponent in just two sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Sabogal also won in singles play, 6-0, 3-6, 6-4.
Yoshizawa clinched the win for USF, winning 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 against No. 42 Greg Andrews from Notre Dame.
"Right now they're the highest ranked team in the Big East, so it's a real good win. It's very reachable, winning the Big East, this gives the guys hope," Barr said.
The Bulls will be back at the USF Varsity Courts on Sunday at 12 p.m. to face Winthrop.
